Spectra

Oct 31 7:30 pm | Nov 1 7:30 pm | Victoria Theatre
Every season has a moment that sets the tone for everything that follows. This season, Spectra is that moment.
Artistic Directress Qarrianne Blayr makes her Victoria Theatre debut with a program that dances through the full range of what DCDC does best — repertory that moves audiences from one emotion to the next. From tenderness to joy, from tension to power, Spectra is larger than any single piece: it’s an evening honoring what this company is becoming while remaining true to who it’s always been.
Welcome to Season 58.

(Re)Singing From The Underspace
Feb 20 7:30 pm | Feb 21 4:00 PM | Victoria Theatre
Choreographer Charles O. Anderson returns to DCDC with an evening-length work rooted in African American tradition and shaped by years of continued reckoning with history.
Born from his landmark A 3/5 Proclamation: 8.5.23, this expanded work uses the body, the chair, the room, and the silence between movements to bear witness to what has been carried, and what refuses to be forgotten. Dancers move through the house before reaching the stage; ancestral voices stir the space; and the audience becomes a part of the performance.

Ever Forward
May 1 7:30 pm | May 2 4:00 pm | Victoria Theatre
A season built on legacy yields a finale built on possibility.
Season 58 closes by looking ahead, featuring both new and older work that continues to amplify DCDC’s presence on stages across the country. This program confidently platforms choreographic voices that challenge artistic boundaries, inspire audiences and highlight the depth and skill of company artists. Celebrate with us Qarrianne Blayr’s first full season as Artistic Directress with a declaration: Continuum…Ever Forward.

When the Spirit Moves…
Sep 25 7:00 PM | Sep 26 7:00 PM | St Margaret’s Church, Dayton, OH
When the Spirit Moves… is an evening of gospel and liturgical dance celebrating African American traditions of spirituality, community, and connection to the divine. This intimate and powerful program has deep resonance with Dayton’s faith communities and speaks directly to the spiritual dimension of DCDC’s identity as a company rooted in the Black experience. An evening of President and CEO Debbie Blunden-Diggs’ most beloved styles of dance, When The Spirit Moves… reconnects dance and worship in a space designed for gathering.

The Littlest Angel
Dec 18 7 pm | Dec 19 7 pm | University of Dayton | Kennedy union Boll theatre
Some traditions earn their place year after year.
The Littlest Angel is one of them.
Choreographed by Crystal Michelle and inspired by Charles Tazewell’s beloved story, this production has become one of the most anticipated evenings in Dayton’s holiday season;and this year a new performer steps into the title role, bringing their own wonder to a story that never grows old. Snow falls on stage. Light fills the house. A score that feels like memory wraps around the room.
Bring the people you love and enjoy the magic of The Littlest Angel
